Search Engine Optimisation

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of structuring your website and writing its content in such a way that allows search engines to easily understand what products or services you provide, ultimately causing your website to appear as close to the top in the list of results they produce.

We can predict you have seen an email or had that phone call about getting you on page one of all the search engines. Be careful taking companies up on this...always do your homework! There are legit companies out there and we would not like to tar them all with the same brush. However, time and again we have heard horror stories of SEO companies getting a website to page one of Google very quickly, it stopping there for a month or two and then just sliding down the rankings at a rapid rate never to be seen again. This is because the process needs to be given time. Sure - we can buy some AdWords, do some pay-per-click advertising or use cheap boosting tricks but this won't give you the long-term success you need. The "organic" approach we use gives far better, consistent results and won't use any trickery. The best part is that it's all based on common sense. This means we can build the site in a "search engine-friendly" way and, if you want, hand it over to you to continue the work following a few simple rules. There's no magic or secret science about it...despite what you may have been led to believe.

A few tips:

  • Create a website that is built for search engines. We'll make sure that everything is set up from a technical point of view to give the search engines what they need.
  • Think backwards! Imagine what your customers would be typing to find you. Type those words and see what comes up now. Even better - if you already have a site use analysis tools to find out for definite - you might be surprised. If not, look at your competitors and see what they're doing.
  • Remember content is your king! Keep it simple and don’t try to be too general! Search Engines like Google also analyse the content to see if it fits to the topic you have in hand. Look at the content of pages rather than the whole site.
  • Expert-sounding content will rank higher! Some websites use news sections or blogs as Google enjoys regularly updated, intelligent content. Search engines get bored of sites that never change.
  • Search engines like sites that make them look good. If your site fulfills the question that the searcher is asking you will be listed at the top as the search engine will look clever by sending you there.
  • Get good links! Links from other well-ranked sites will boost your own ranking. Remember the "well-ranked" part of this - it's quality, not quantity.
